February, 1969: Souths appointed international forward, Elton Rasmussen captain-coach and sole selector for the Brisbane club season after his successful stint with St George in Sydney. The move was unusual for the time and was described as a “bobby dazzler idea’ by Bob Bax, Brisbane’s Super Coach of the 1960s and a mentor later in life to Wayne Bennett. Souths did not make the ’69 finals.
