Former Australian Coach Ron Willey

English club, Bradford Northern parted company with Australian coach, Ron Willey and appointed Tommy Smales and David Hobbs in a caretaker role. Willey, a former Manly, Penrith and NSW State of Origin coach, did not participate at the top level after that, largely due to health issues.

Hobbs infamously knocked out the front tooth of Australian hooker, Greg Conescu with a blatant elbow in the dying minutes of the First Test of the 1984 series at the SCG.

Meanwhile former Redcliffe coach, Darryl Van de Velde signed a new two year deal at Castleford while former Brisbane Easts centre, Tony Anderson switched from Halifax to Oldham for a $140,000 transfer fee.

Widnes made an offer to Queensland legend, Wally Lewis who elected to play for Gold Coast Seagulls after parting ways with the Broncos. Lewis had a stint in England with Wakefield Trinity in the mid 1980s.
