St Helens Coach Alex Murphy displays a range of matchday emotions

Dublin Blues winger, Brian Carney signs for English club, Gateshead after being discovered playing university rugby league by Gateshead’s Australian CEO, Shane Richardson.
Carney would go on to play 14 Tests for Great Britain and four for Ireland, as well as four union Tests for Ireland.
He played club league for Gateshead, Hull, Wigan and Warrington in England, as well as Newcastle in Australia. He played for Munster Province in union.
Also in December, 1998 Wakefield Trinity sign former Queensland State of Origin winger, Adrian Brunker from St George after the Dragons merge with Illawarra Steelers.
In tragic news for the game in the ‘old dart’, former Great Britain forward, Roy Powell dies of a heart attack while training with Rochdale Hornets. Powell, who played most of his career with Leeds, toured Australia and New Zealand with the Lions in 1988.
On a far more positive note, former Great Britain halfback, Alex Murphy (pictured) is awarded an OBE in the New Year Honours.
