-18 win over Auckland in a National Panasonic Cup match at Lang Park.

The Courier-Mail’s Lawrie Kavanagh described it as the best performance by a Country side in many years.
Gill, playing at fullback, was safe under the high ball, and spectacular in attack.
His second try was the best of the match. Gill made a long run after an excellent chain passing movement, and somehow stayed on his feet despite a vicious high shot. He found winger, Steve Gibson in support, and when Gibson was hemmed in on the corner, he passed back inside to Gill who rocketed over the for try.
The Country side, coached by Illawarra’s Alan Fitzgibbon, left on a tour of New Zealand after the match.
The Panasonic Cup sides were: Country: Peter Gill; Steve Gibson, Harry Deemal, Rob Armstrong, Dale Shearer; Rob Tew, Col Lindenberg; Dan Stains, Jim Cowell, Lee Morrissey, Marshall Colwell (c), Greg Conescu, Neil McCullagh. Res: Rod Brunker, Greg Milne, Peter Blackadder, Paul Bleakney.
