TEST centre, Gene Miles signed a three year deal with the Queensland Rugby League and a two year deal with Wynnum-Manly.
The Townsville Souths’ product turned his back on mammoth offers from Sydney clubs, Easts and Parramatta, and also knocked back a big offer from English club, Wigan.
Miles, 24, admitted he would be losing money staying in Queensland, but money wasn’t his only motivation.
“My job is very important to me, and besides, I am proud to be a Queenslander and a member of our State of Origin side,” he said.
Miles had just started a new job with League’s major sponsor, Winfield (cigarettes).
Anyhow, moving right along – Miles celebrated his new deal by scoring two tries for Wynnum that weekend in the Seagulls 26-14 win over Redcliffe at Dolphin Oval.
Both tries were set up by five eighth, Wally (the King) Lewis, who scored one himself.
