Junior burnout

The Queensland Rugby League has released the draws for the annual Mal Meninga (under-18) and Cyril Connell (under-16) Cups, once again raising the issue of match overload for younger players.

It is often a balancing act for young players involved in club, representative and school football, with the very real prospect of burnout from appearing in 40 to 50 games.

It is to be hoped administrations from all areas can co-operate to an extent where players are not pressured to make decisions one way or the other, between club and school in particular.

Overlapping of fixtures is unavoidable in some instances, but a commonsense ‘priority’ approach surely is not beyond the imagination of people running the game.
